05/25/2016: Storytime Pup - Storytime Pup being watched in Indonesia

Storytime Pup being watched in Indonesia

I was sent a link to this video this morning of cute Rara and Metha, playing Seek & Find on Storytime Pup.  Their uncle, Dami Nata, does the Seek & Find and other drawings for Storytime Pup. We find it so exciting that children as far away as Indonesia are starting to watch Storytime Pup.We have viewers in several countries.  Small yet growing audiences.  I am told that the kids enjoy watching, even with the language barrier.  They enjoy STP and also the great book illustrations and drawings we have on the show.
So authors, as we grow our audience internationally, you may have to start having your books translated into other languages :-)

"Thanks Rara and Metha for sharing your video with us!"

05/20/2016: Storytime Pup - Kid's Arts & Crafts????

If you have been following along you have seen that we have done all segments so far accept for Sing-along & Dance-along.  Well, we are thinking that we may just remove that segment.  Why?  Well, first and foremost, I can't dance :-)  Also, we are wondering just how engaging that kind of segment would be.  Would kids tire quickly of seeing Storytime Pup doing a simple dance move over and over again.
But, we do want to expand the segment offerings.  I am working on some collaborations for some exercise and movement videos now for what could be a new segment called "Let's Get Moving".  I am finalizing things for a kid's yoga series as well as a children's exercise program being developed. More on that soon.  I have also now just started my search for some children's Art & Crafts videos.  I am hoping to maybe do a collaboration with another channel that does arts & crafts.  So, if any of our readers know anyone, point them in our direction.

05/17/2016: Storytime Pup - Storytime Pup Mobile App is Live on Google Play Store

We just got news that our Storytime Pup mobile app is live in the Google Play store!  Please download and give it a try.  Let us know if you encounter any errors.
We felt it was important to create an app for Storytime Pup since mobile usage is the norm now.  We always see children using their parents phone at restaurants and in stores. We wanted to make sure that the Storytime Pup channel was easily accessible to parents and their children when they are out and about.
We wanted to keep it simple, and it is.  There are 6 different buttons on the app.  The main button is the channel button on the top middle.  Clicking this takes you directly to the Storytime Pup Channel on You tube.  The Website button takes you to our website.  The  Blog, Twitter and Facebook buttons take you directly to those Storytime Pup social media sites. And the email button allows you to email us at Storytime Pup.  Again, we wanted to keep is simple.  We thought of just having a single button that took you directly to the Storytime Pup channel.  But, decided to add the other buttons. Your feedback on the app is welcomed and encouraged.
It is not yet available on iTunes.  There review process takes a bit longer and it could be another couple of weeks. We will let you know when the Storytime Pup app is available on iTunes.

05/13/2016: Storytime Pup - Momma Dot's kid's playing Seeking & Finding

What a way to start the day!  We received another photo of kid's enjoying Storytime Pup.  This photo came from "Momma Dot".  It shows her kids playing along to the first "Seeking & Finding" segment from last week.  Look at them pointing out the objects on the screen!  We just love it.  Thanks for sharing Momma Dot!
We also received an email about children running and getting their stuffed animals and hairbrushes during the "Let's Pretend To Give A Dog A Bath" segment.

The kids grabbed their stuffed animals. Then they used "tools" such as the hair brush. The hair brush was the hose , and brush”

We love to hear that kids are following along in the segment.
We encourage any readers and subscribers to send us picture of their children enjoying Storytime Pup.  We also like to hear your feedback on what they like and don't like.
The book readings seem to be a big hit.  Same with Magic Window. We did get one email saying we should keep the Magic Window videos short, around 5 minutes.  I guess the last one was a tad too long for the kids.  Kid's are playing along with Let's Pretend and Seeking and Finding, so we will keep them coming.

05/12/2016: Storytime Pup - Ellentube

I think Ellen Degeneres is just great.  I have loved here since I first saw her doing stand up many years ago.  Her television show is incredibly popular.  I watch a bit of it when I can.  Ellen loves to show funny and other videos on her show.  I did not realize that she started your own video site, called Ellentube.  I just heard about it this week while watching a segment with a cute little boy.  So, since Ellen loves videos and also loves children, I decided to upload my videos to Ellentube as well.  A way for added exposure.  And who knows, maybe Ellen will take notice and mention Storytime Pup on her show.  Stranger things have happened in life.
So, I am adding a step to the regular process.  After I upload to Youtube, I will be uploading to Ellentube as well.  So Ellen, if you happen to be reading this, Storytime Pup would love to be a guest on your show (haha)

Macaroni Kid Features Suzy's Smile and Storytime Pup

Our first video was for the book Suzy's Smile - A Dogfish Gets Braces written  by Momma Daot.  Well, Momma Dot contacted us to tell her that her book was reviewed be the Macaroni Kid website.  It was a very nice article and it included a screen shot of Storytime Pup reading her book with a link to the Storytime Pup channel.  We are very pleased and wanted to share.

05/05/2016: Storytime Pup - Let's Pretend???

Let's pretend.  This is another segment I thought of.  I have talked before about how our imaginations played such a big role in our childhood.  Heck it still does now.  My imagination comes into play in my job all the time.  I am know as an "idea guy".  Hey, even this whole channel came out of my imagination.  The whole look and feel, all came from my imagination.
So, I have seen the importance and benefits of a strong imagination. But, like all things, it is something that has to be used and honed.  I believe that today's kids don't have as much imagination play as compared to when we were young.  It is due to a whole new world we live in.  I could be wrong.  It is just my observation.  I have also read articles that have said the same thing.
Let's pretend will be a pretty simple segment.  Storytime Pup will walk the kids through an imagination exercise.  One of the first ones is making a pizza.  Storytime Pup will walk them through making a pizza.  He will key in on their senses.  "What does the imaginary dough feel like?"  "How good does your pizza smell."  "How does it taste?"  He will ask other questions along the way.  "What are your favorite toppings?" He will encourage them to think outside the box.  "You can put whatever you want on this pizza.  Do you want cookies and gumdrops on yours?  That's ok because this is let's pretend and you can imagine anything you want to."
As with all the different segments, time will tell if kids like them and if we will continue to do them.  If they like them, I just have to use MY imagination to come up with a new "Let's Pretend" concept for each week.  :-)

05/04/2016: Storytime Pup - Seeking & Finding???

I am just now uploading the first "Seeking & Finding" video.  I though it might be a good addition to the channel, when we were looking at additional segments to spruce things up.  As you may have guessed, kids are encouraged to help Storytime Pup find the hidden objects at the bottom of the page in the picture on the left. Storytime Pup takes them through one by one looking for the objects.  The items are circled at the bottom of the page to let the kids know exactly which object is being searched for.  After searching for a while, a pointing finger then shows the kids where it is in the picture.
I remember doing these things when  I was a kid and I enjoyed them.  Most of the segments in this show are from good memories of things I loved as a child.  I am hoping the "Seeking & Finding" segments are well received.  I am not sure how well this format will play out.  But I guess we will see.
I polled a couple of teachers on how long we should give the children to find the object before pointing it out. It was determined that about 30 seconds is a good amount of time for even the younger viewers to find the object in the picture.  We had to find a balance between too hard and too easy.  I am hoping to receive feedback from viewers in the comments to see if the amount of time is good or not.
We did find out one thing we have to change.  I have all the pictures being drawn as portrait with the objects down below,  Well, when translated to video, it does not fit the horizontal screen too well. So, we had 2 black bands on ether side of the picture.  Oh well, I colored the bands in for the first couple of shows as we already have the drawings.  After the first 3, all will be drawn landscape and will fill the screen better.  Once again, we are learning as we go.
Please watch the "Seek & Find" segments and give us your feedback on them.  We love both positive and constructive feedback.

05/03/2016: Storytime Pup - Sloooooow Uploads

One thing I have found very frustrating is the time required to upload a video to You Tube.  Our average video length is about 6 minutes.  I am finding the average upload time is about 90 minutes,  I am very surprised.  I have read before about people saying how long it takes to upload a video to You Tube/  I thought it might be 20 minutes or so.  I was not expecting an hour and a half.  But, it is high definition and I know that results in large file sizes.
I do think I can render the files differently within Sony Vegas and it might help some.  I need to do some investigation into this and see.  I do not want to trade loss of quality for upload speed.
I also have to look into my Internet speed.  For what I pay Time Warner each month, I should have very high speed Internet.  But, I often wonder.  I know there are websites where you can check your Internet speed.  Another thing I have to do.  If I have to live with the 90 minute upload time, so be it.  I can start the uploads later in the evening.  I will report back on this issue.
