05/05/2016: Storytime Pup - Let's Pretend???

Let's pretend.  This is another segment I thought of.  I have talked before about how our imaginations played such a big role in our childhood.  Heck it still does now.  My imagination comes into play in my job all the time.  I am know as an "idea guy".  Hey, even this whole channel came out of my imagination.  The whole look and feel, all came from my imagination.
So, I have seen the importance and benefits of a strong imagination. But, like all things, it is something that has to be used and honed.  I believe that today's kids don't have as much imagination play as compared to when we were young.  It is due to a whole new world we live in.  I could be wrong.  It is just my observation.  I have also read articles that have said the same thing.
Let's pretend will be a pretty simple segment.  Storytime Pup will walk the kids through an imagination exercise.  One of the first ones is making a pizza.  Storytime Pup will walk them through making a pizza.  He will key in on their senses.  "What does the imaginary dough feel like?"  "How good does your pizza smell."  "How does it taste?"  He will ask other questions along the way.  "What are your favorite toppings?" He will encourage them to think outside the box.  "You can put whatever you want on this pizza.  Do you want cookies and gumdrops on yours?  That's ok because this is let's pretend and you can imagine anything you want to."
As with all the different segments, time will tell if kids like them and if we will continue to do them.  If they like them, I just have to use MY imagination to come up with a new "Let's Pretend" concept for each week.  :-)

05/04/2016: Storytime Pup - Seeking & Finding???

I am just now uploading the first "Seeking & Finding" video.  I though it might be a good addition to the channel, when we were looking at additional segments to spruce things up.  As you may have guessed, kids are encouraged to help Storytime Pup find the hidden objects at the bottom of the page in the picture on the left. Storytime Pup takes them through one by one looking for the objects.  The items are circled at the bottom of the page to let the kids know exactly which object is being searched for.  After searching for a while, a pointing finger then shows the kids where it is in the picture.
I remember doing these things when  I was a kid and I enjoyed them.  Most of the segments in this show are from good memories of things I loved as a child.  I am hoping the "Seeking & Finding" segments are well received.  I am not sure how well this format will play out.  But I guess we will see.
I polled a couple of teachers on how long we should give the children to find the object before pointing it out. It was determined that about 30 seconds is a good amount of time for even the younger viewers to find the object in the picture.  We had to find a balance between too hard and too easy.  I am hoping to receive feedback from viewers in the comments to see if the amount of time is good or not.
We did find out one thing we have to change.  I have all the pictures being drawn as portrait with the objects down below,  Well, when translated to video, it does not fit the horizontal screen too well. So, we had 2 black bands on ether side of the picture.  Oh well, I colored the bands in for the first couple of shows as we already have the drawings.  After the first 3, all will be drawn landscape and will fill the screen better.  Once again, we are learning as we go.
Please watch the "Seek & Find" segments and give us your feedback on them.  We love both positive and constructive feedback.

05/03/2016: Storytime Pup - Sloooooow Uploads

One thing I have found very frustrating is the time required to upload a video to You Tube.  Our average video length is about 6 minutes.  I am finding the average upload time is about 90 minutes,  I am very surprised.  I have read before about people saying how long it takes to upload a video to You Tube/  I thought it might be 20 minutes or so.  I was not expecting an hour and a half.  But, it is high definition and I know that results in large file sizes.
I do think I can render the files differently within Sony Vegas and it might help some.  I need to do some investigation into this and see.  I do not want to trade loss of quality for upload speed.
I also have to look into my Internet speed.  For what I pay Time Warner each month, I should have very high speed Internet.  But, I often wonder.  I know there are websites where you can check your Internet speed.  Another thing I have to do.  If I have to live with the 90 minute upload time, so be it.  I can start the uploads later in the evening.  I will report back on this issue.

05/02/2016: Storytime Pup - We Are Live!

We are live!  Yes, we did meet our launch goal of May 1st.  We did not have our goal of 6 or more shows up.  Yes, more issues, but we did get one up and we are happy about that.
We are even more happy at the initial response from the authors and some other viewers.  Had 80+ views and 10 positive channel comments since we launched at 9PM last night. I know those numbers are small in the grand scheme of You Tube, but it is a great start to us and we know it takes time to grow a subscription base.  We currently have 83 subscribers.  We can't wait for that to grow into the thousands over time.  We are confident that it will happen once people see our videos and start talking about the channel.
Thank you to everyone for your support and feedback up to this point.  Stick with us for what promises to be a journey full of FUN!

05/01/2016: Storytime Pup - It's Time To Roll Out The Red Carpet

Well, it's finally time to roll out the red carpet for the premier of the Storytime Pup Show.  It has taken three and a half months of preparation to get where we are today.  Are we ready?  Well, we still have some work to do in some areas and things to address.  But, as they say "the show must go on"
I worked late into the night shooting and editing and changing and re-doing.  Trying to capture what has been in our heads for months onto video.  I think we have a pretty good thing here and I hope everyone else does too.

As of this moment, it looks like we will premier with include the following segments:

  • A Storytime Segment Featuring "Suzy's Smile - Suzy Dog Fish Gets Braces" by Momma Dot, illustrated by Pascal Gaggelli
  • A Storytime Segment Featuring "Sir Alex and The Missing Toys" by Michael Yu
  • A Magic Window Segment Featuring a swimming tiger cub from Dade City's Wild Things Park
  • A Magic Window Segment Featuring a tiny teacup Pomeranian pup, from Tea Cup Pomeranians
  • A Seek and Find Segment Featuring Suzy Smile and her friends
  • A Seek and Find Segment Featuring Storytime Pup and his friends at the park.
  • TBD - There may also be a "Let's Pretend: segment, if time allows.
